City of Perth Parking Honored as 2013 Parking Organization of the Year

International Parking Institute recognizes the Australian city's exceptional sustainability and customer service efforts

(FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - May 22, 2013)  The International Parking Institute (IPI) named the City of Perth Parking the 2013 Parking Organization of the Year, citing its exceptional efforts to integrate technology and enhance sustainability throughout its parking operations.

City of Perth logoThe annual award, announced at IPI's 2013 Conference & Expo in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., May 19-22, recognizes organizations that exceed expectations and meet extremely high standards for customer service. Nominations are accepted on an annual basis and judged by a select committee of industry peers. Recipients are selected by IPI's Professional Recognition Committee.

Living up to its tagline, "The Greener Place to Park," City of Perth Parking (CPP) has embraced sustainability in every facet of its operations, from incorporating high-efficiency and energy-saving technology to making the city literally greener by planting and maintaining 170,000 trees (with another 85,000 to be added in 2013), helping reduce atmospheric carbon.

CPP's Goderich Street Car Park features state-of-the-art license plate recognition (LPR) technology, offering a ticketless payment alternative. Its new Elder Street facility showcases a range of environmentally-friendly features, including solar panels, rainwater harvesting, automatic carbon dioxide (CO2) monitoring, natural ventilation, efficient lighting, and electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities. Plans call for instituting these technologies at all 33 car parks.

Also in place are solar-powered ticket machines, a unique reconciliation process for parking payments, and technology that provides highly accurate accounting. CPP's smartphone app (which recently garnered the Parking Association of Australia's Innovation Award for Excellence) and website deliver real-time information on parking space availability, pinpoint the nearest car parks, and remind customers when parking is about to expire and where they are parked.

City of Perth Parking also believes in giving back to the community, contributing parking income for a weekend to a charity telethon, participating in an annual holiday parade, and funding its tree-planting initiative entirely from fees paid by parking customers.

Announcing the award, IPI Executive Director, Shawn Conrad, CAE, said, "City of Perth Parking embodies our industry-wide goals for sustainability and customer service. Their dedication to improving the experience of their customers, helping their community, and protecting our planet makes them well-deserving of this high industry honor."
